Talent Search STOMP

on April 2, South Bend got a little taste of New York City! For one of our TRIO Talent Search cultural events this year, our scholars headed to The Morris Performing Arts Center to experience one of the best parts of NYC: STOMP! The show made its debut in the early 1990s as an off Broadway production. It quickly became a popular production in New York and a fan favorite. Although it has been a couple of decades since its debut, the show has not lost its appeal! It kept our students moving, clapping and laughing. The young lady next to me could not stop bobbing her head and clapping! The show combines music, dance and theatrics with a touch of comedy added to the mix. The audience goes in expecting the innovative use of everyday items, but the show exceeds those expectations. The performers do not simply use these items to create sounds, they actually create musical pieces and choreography to go along with the music. Plus they add theatrical elements and comedy to the show to make it even more captivating. The audience enjoyed opportunities to participate - we clapped and stomped to various rhythms throughout the show which made it all the more fun! We are so glad that the cast and crew came to STOMP our yard!  More photos can be seen in our Flickr album.
