Our Impact

As an institution of higher learning and research, the University of Notre Dame is equally dedicated to improving K–12 education in South Bend.

According to 2010 U.S. Census data, 78.8% of South Bend residents over the age of 25 do not possess a college degree, placing our community well behind the national average of 28.2% for postsecondary educational attainment.

In order to assure South Bend’s competitiveness in the global economy, community partners must work together to develop and promote a highly educated and highly skilled workforce. Increasing college graduation rates is a critical strategy in developing such a workforce, and is the overriding focus of the University of Notre Dame’s TRIO Programs.
